Thorny Lake 3 ( The Transfer)
Three months later,
I was called upon that I had a visitor.
I was surprised,
could it be Femi?
He eventually told the truth?
And that I was falsely accused?
I was directed to a man seated at an
angle,
he wasn’t familiar,
he was elderly with strands of white
hair on his unkempt beards,
he wore a jean and a polo with a cap and
shades.
I pulled the chair and then sat,
he said "Hello" I said "Hi" I know you and I know you didn’t commit
the crime,
a chilly sensation went through my
spine.
At last I got someone who believed in my innocence.
He said he would take me out of here
only if I would work for him.
I was confused,
work??
What kind of work?
What happens to school?
And then I thought again,
I’ll neither be in school if I remain
here so, I told him I was in.
I was too excited to ask what kind of Job.
He left and I returned.
Few days later, I was at his house a free man. I met his wife and two kids; beautiful angels. I thought at first, could it be the job of a cleaner?
But, I doubt if he will go as far as to getting me out of the prison to just clean his house. He will not search for cleaners in a prison.
or maybe he wants to put me back to .......
Before dinner we prayed, it occurred to me that it’s been two month now since I last prayed.
Must be a Godfearing home I thought
I didn’t finish my food. There were a lot of spiry and strange things in my food but of course, I wouldn’t complain.
In my culture it was wrong to have and then courtesy demands I should be grateful regardless the ‘sophistication’ of the meal.
I think she was trying to impress me]. I ate the little I could eat and drank the rest of the grape juice to fill up.
Mr. Lukas led me to my room at the ground floor.
At last I could sleep on a soft bed not that ‘pala fish’ mattress I usually sleep on in my cell.
I turned to see Mr. Lukas at an odd hour, late at night beside my bed. I sat up quickly.
"Is there a problem sir?"
"It’s about the job".
You are an intelligent boy, "Thank you sir" I smiled proudly.
"You are going to dupe as many of your country’s business men for me"
It looked like my spirit left my body and returned few seconds later.
"I know a lot of business men in Nigeria you will extort money from, for me"
"They call it “419 or yahoo yahoo” right?"
Did he expect me to answer that?
I was lost in thoughts, my heart almost jumped out of my chest, it was beating hard and faster.
shouldn’t I have remained in my cell, instead of jumping from frying pan to fire?
He tapped me to restore me back to reality. I’ll take care of you, he concluded.
October 9th was the date
How do I sell my country to this man?
My future! my integrity! my Lola! my Aunt! Mummy Kolade!
People who thought highly of me!
Everything was going round in circles, the space was blurry.
I became dizzy, staring at nothing;
I heard the door lock, didn’t even notice him leave the room.
I’m doomed for life; my siblings must have been thinking life was going smooth for me. But here I am not even in school.
Episode four
The next morning, I went down stairs for breakfast;
Kate had walked down to my room inviting
me to join them on the table.
Kate is His first child, an angel with curly hair , Two of her teeth were lost, she had a dimple that made her smile beautiful.
She was six, very smart and intelligent.
I joined them at the table; it was fried Irish and Sauce for breakfast, it was a spicy one.
We held our hands together to pray again.
After breakfast I walked down to my room, sat still, to think about what he said to me.
Few minutes later he was in my room; He gave me a laptop, a smart phone, a modem, headset and then a list of names.
He didn’t wait for my response; he knew I had no choice or maybe I had a choice; to return to my cell instead of working for him.
Two weeks of working for Mr. Green Lukas.
I had duped seven politicians, making a sum of 450million.
It had served them right, the money wasn’t theirs too doesn't make a saint though I guess "we all have sinned and fallen short of righteousness" Sunday school verses!
Two weeks later, my boss traveled.
His wife, Roseline had no clue to the 'work I was working'
He had warned me not to say a word to her; else my life would go for it.
For one month she knew nothing, we both had played safe.

From frying pan to fire. Getting fascinating.
