Thorny Lake 6 (The Rescue)
I had lost all of my strength and a lot of blood.
I was breathing hard, gradually it became faint.
I looked up the sky, to say my last prayers.
I saw the cloudy sky about to rain down waters, the stars were hidden.
Is God writing me off? Are the waters sign that my name has been washed off the book for the living?
Few seconds later,
I heard a gunshot, I instantly cried out for help.
I know I said things I didn’t hear myself, I had lost my voice to pain.
The breeze started, the trees started to dance.
The winds were making scary noise like those we hear from wizardry Disney movies, so those noises were real?
The birds were flying to seek shelter, their wings flapped against their bodies giving out sounds as though they were clapping.
I wish I had wings to fly, if I had one, my boss would have shot them still.
I guess I was hopeless in any form.
I woke up, with migraine.
Everything seemed blurry and in triple forms, it took seconds to see clearly.
A young boy was before me; he had a blue eyes, round face and a flat nose with a scar at his right cheek.
He had lost a tooth, he smiled anyway.
Where am i? he was still smiling.
"David!" A voice called from outside.
The boy ran out
I tried to sit up, I couldn’t, I saw my legs well bandaged, my foot too.
My Body hurt badly.
In my struggles to lift my body up, an elderly man came in with what looked like tea in a white mug.
He smiled and said "morning Black man!"
I said "Hello" faintly.
How are you feeling this morning?
I nodded positively, meaning I was fine.
He helped me up and gave me the content to drink.
"It taste bad" " yes, it does, it will help reduce the pain".
That was the content, herbs!
he probably mixed a lot of them and boiled them.
It was Greenish Black, with something that looked like strands of tree roots and tree bark.
Nigerians would probably call it 'Agbo'
It was bitter but, he advised I drank on.
I finished it.
Few seconds later,
I became dizzy, he was before me.
He said I was reacting to the medicine; "you will be fine" he encouraged.
Episode six
So that’s why I was in the woods at that time of the night, I ended my story.
"It’s a sympathetic story Kolade I must confess"
" Yes sir, my family had high expectations on me, here I am with nothing, how do I even go back home? I lost everything, I’ve nothing"
Don’t worry it’s going to be fine, Houghton added.
His little boy came forward, he waved at me. "He is my only child, my wife and I had a divorce" "so sorry about that"
He interrupted, nahh my life is peaceful without her.
Standing up to shut the windows, because it was about to rain again, he directed David to get my herbs so I could take my evening dose.
David brought it to me, I said thank you to the young kid, who had a blonde hair.
Houghton broke the silence.
"I picked you up in a very bad state, you looked pale, lost a lot of blood, you shivered terribly.
I was out in the woods, to hunt before the rain started.
I missed my shot, so I was running to get the animal, and then I stumbled on you".
